Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PG&E Residential V2X Pilot Program?

The Vehicle-to-Everything Pilot Program helps PG&E and its customers better understand and leverage the value of bidirectional charging technology. This technology provides emergency backup power from an eligible V2H-capable GM EV to your properly equipped home. In exchange for allowing PG&E to see how this technology works during a grid outage, PG&E is compensating enrollees with up to $4,500 in incentives.*

How much will I receive in incentives?

After applying and being approved by PG&E and GM Energy, the customer is eligible to receive $2,500 residential upfront infrastructure incentives, plus an additional $500 if a customer lives in a disadvantaged community, and an additional $1,500 early adopter incentives for the first 250 participants in the pilot. There are 400 available spots for GM EV customers in the pilot. Customers may also be eligible to receive additional incentives for participating in planned backup power events, maintaining enrollment through the end of the pilot term. Visit PG&E to see Program terms and conditions.

How do I find an EVITP certified electrician?

Visit EVITP for a list of EVITP certified electricians.

What is ELRP?

ELRP, or the Emergency Load Reduction Program, is a pilot program administered by PG&E that offers participants financial incentives to reduce energy usage during times of high grid stress and emergencies. When it comes to your EV, you can help mitigate grid constraints by pausing the charge on your EV. On the day of an ELRP event, GM Energy will attempt to accommodate your selected charge preferences while working to charge your vehicle outside the times of the ELRP Event. You may opt out of having your EV charge paused. Events occur only during the summer season between May 1 and October 31, and their scheduling is limited to between 4PM and 9PM PT.

Is there a cap for the program?

This program has a cap of 1,000 participants, of which 400 can be GM customers. We do not expect to reach this cap during 2025.

When will I receive compensation?

The upfront infrastructure incentive will be issued via check or ACH by PG&E to the customer once enrolled and accepted in the pilot. Participants will receive their incentive within 4-6 weeks of successfully enrolling in the pilot.

How long does the program run?

The PG&E V2X Pilot Program runs through Dec 31, 2025.
