Together with Pilot, GM Energy is adding up to 2,000 DC fast charging chargers at up to 500 Pilot and Flying J travel centers so GM EV drivers can go the distance.

We’re collaborating with ChargePoint to expand our urban charging access, bringing thousands of DC fast charging stalls closer to where you live, work and spend time.

EVgo

GM Energy is expanding its public charging infrastructure through a collaboration with EVgo. By 2028, GM EV drivers can access up to 2,850 DC fast chargers in major metro areas across the U.S. for quick charging stops.

Fast Charge Prep
Precondition your battery before DC Fast Charging to heat or cool the battery to its ideal temperature. Automatically start your Fast Charge Prep by setting a DCFC station as your destination using your GM vehicle mobile app* or infotainment screen.

Parking
In hot weather, opt for covered parking or a shaded area to help regulate battery temperatures. In cold weather, a warm garage or covered area will help reduce the energy needed to power up.

If driving through hills or high winds, give your battery a little extra charge and ensure tires are properly inflated
Research your route’s terrain and weather conditions and map out charging stops
Choose Google Built-in* within your vehicle's display to help predict range, elevation changes, weather impacts and the state of charge upon arrival at your destination
If consistently driving on flat terrain and can stay at a steady speed, turn on Super Cruise*
Use One Pedal Drive and the Regen On Demand to recover energy during downhill drives and when braking

Master Your Driving Style

Refine your driving technique to get more from your GM EV. Here’s how:

Keep an eye on your speedometer for maximized range. GM EVs are more efficient when driving the posted speed limits

Turn on One Pedal Drive or cruise control and use Regen On Demand to maintain a constant, steady speed. Rapid starts and sudden stops can influence your GM EV’s range

Keep your tires aired up. Properly inflated tires reduce resistance and can help make the most of your GM EV’s range

Towing

Hauling a boat, RV or other road-trip cargo is doable with a little extra planning.

Plan For Any Haul

If you want to use your tow-approved GM EV* to haul a boat, RV or other roadtrip toys, here are a few tips to help you go the distance:

To account for extra weight, start your drive with a full charge or plan extra stops to charge
GM EVs equipped with trailering modes will update their EV range once connected to the item you're towing or upon activation of Tow Haul Mode. Also, if equipped, creating a trailer profile will store your settings and provide more accurate range predictions
Look for charging stations with pull-through spaces like the GM Energy Pilot Flying J stations. Or consider pulling in behind a charger or park at an angle for easier access. Be mindful of charging etiquette and make sure others can still access open chargers

How can I be confident I’ll reach my destination with my current state of charge?

Your in-vehicle navigation system and GM vehicle mobile app* provide real-time range calculations based on current battery level, driving conditions, and your planned route. Before departure, check your estimated arrival battery percentage and input your destination into your app or navigation to plan charging stops if needed.

What factors affect my EV’s driving range?

Several variables impact your range including weather conditions, driving speed, terrain, use of climate control, and driving technique.

I need to plan a long drive or road trip — how do I do that?

Planning a road trip with your GM EV is easy using your GM vehicle mobile app.* You can map your route, find public charging stations along the way, and plan your charging stops around specific restaurants or attractions. Before you take off, make sure your GM vehicle mobile app* is set up and bring your DC adapter to be able to use Superchargers.* At each stop, just plug in, start charging—then get back on the road with confidence.

How does weather and temperature affect my EV charging?

Both extreme cold and extreme heat can affect your EV’s ability to charge and your range. In both conditions, prioritize charging in a covered location to minimize exposure to the elements. On the go, this means looking for public charging stations with canopies you can pull under or through. Prepare your EV for a charge by preconditioning your battery, either by starting your charge from your GM vehicle mobile app* or manually through the in-vehicle navigation.

What should I do if my EV battery runs completely out of charge?

Immediately contact GM Energy EV Concierge at (833) 64POWER or, if you have OnStar, contact an agent with a blue button push or through the OnStar app. Lastly, consider carrying a GM Dual Level Charge Cord for emergency situations. Prior to running out of charge, your GM EV will provide a low battery warning through the in-vehicle navigation. And, if you are using the route planner, you will get an alert on when to stop for a charge.

How can I locate applicable Tesla Superchargers* with Google built-in?

You can search for and find Superchargers, plan a route, initiate a charge and process payment using your GM vehicle mobile app.* If your vehicle has Google built-in* compatibility, you can also use Google Maps on your center display to search for and route to a NACS charging station after changing the adapter setting in charge station filtering. From the map screen, select the Charging Stations icon under the search bar. In the charging stations list, select the Filters icon and navigate to the compatible plugs section. Here you can select your plug type and toggle on NACS. Google Maps on your center display will now include NACS compatible charge stations in its search results and EV trip plans.
